Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday received Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria Désirée at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The Crown Princess arrived at 2:13 p.m. and was welcomed by Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, who escorted her to Shettima’s office. Her visit to Nigeria runs from April 7 to 9, 2025.
According to the Swedish Embassy, the royal visit is aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between Sweden and Nigeria.
While in the country, Princess Victoria is scheduled to meet with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and the Governor of Lagos State.
A key event during her visit will be the official opening of the Swedish Trade Office in Lagos, which is expected to boost bilateral trade and investment opportunities.
This visit follows Vice President Shettima’s trip to Stockholm in October 2024, where he was hosted at the Royal Palace by the Crown Princess.
Royal visits to Nigeria remain relatively rare. Notably, in May 2024, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visited the country to promote the Invictus Games, and in 2018, then-Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, made an official tour focused on peacebuilding, interfaith dialogue, and environmental sustainability.
