Fuji music legend Saheed Osupa has officially withdrawn the criminal defamation case filed against controversial hip-hop artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, following a successful reconciliation facilitated by prominent figures within the entertainment industry.
Portable was previously arrested and arraigned by the Kwara State Police Command after Osupa lodged a petition over a series of disparaging remarks made by the singer on social media in March.
The comments, which questioned Osupa’s legacy and relevance, quickly went viral, prompting outrage from fans and legal action from the Fuji icon.
However, in a surprising turn of events, Osupa’s legal team on Monday, April 14, confirmed that all charges had been dropped.
“Alhaji (Dr.) Saheed Osupa has decided to drop all charges against Habeeb Okikiola a.k.a. Portable in the interest of peace and unity in the Nigerian entertainment industry,” a statement from his management read. “The decision followed a series of private meetings and interventions by respected industry figures.”
Sources familiar with the reconciliation effort revealed that Portable reached out to Osupa through intermediaries and personally apologized for his earlier remarks.
During the peace meetings, the Zazuu Zeh crooner acknowledged his missteps and expressed deep regret for the insults.
Commenting on the resolution, Osupa said:
“As someone who has spent decades building a name in this industry, I understand the importance of discipline, but I also know that peace is priceless. I have chosen to forgive—not because I wasn’t hurt—but because I believe in the power of reconciliation.”
The decision to settle the matter amicably has drawn widespread praise from fans and fellow musicians, many of whom commended Osupa’s maturity and leadership.
