A massive protest is currently ongoing in Otukpo, the headquarters of the Idoma people in Benue South Senatorial District, as residents express outrage over rising insecurity in the region.
Reports indicate that youths have taken to the streets, barricading all major roads leading in and out of Otukpo, effectively grounding movement in the town.
Otukpo, a key gateway connecting Enugu in the east and Lafia in the north, is currently experiencing a heavy traffic gridlock due to the protests.
Security operatives have been deployed to the scene and were seen pleading with protesters to remove the barricades and allow free movement of vehicles.
The protest follows a series of attacks in Agatu, Ado, Okpokwu, Otukpo, and Ogbadigbo Local Government Areas, all within Benue South, where suspected herdsmen have continued to unleash violence.
Many lives have been lost, and properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed in these sustained attacks.
As tensions rise, residents are demanding immediate government intervention to curb the escalating insecurity in the region.
