OGHA WARNS CHIEF ADETOLA FROM PARADING SELF AS CORONET OBA, AS AGENCIES TASKED ON ACCOUNTABILITY

Ogun State House of Assembly through its Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs today had an interface with stakeholders involved in the petition against 'unlawful claim to a coronet chief and conferment of chieftainancy title' submitted to the Assembly Ikunusi Descendants against one Chief Adewole Adetola parading himself as the Oba- Elect of Idokunusi Town, in ijebu Imushin, ijebu- East Local Government Area of the State.

The House Committee chaired by Hon. Jemili Akingbade, warned the respondent to stop parading himself as a monarch, cautioning that it was only when all the processes leading to his installation had been concluded with the approval of the State Executive Council led by the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.

Hon. Akingbade also stressed that the respondent needed to work alongside with all residents of the community to promote peaceful co-existence in the area. 

In the same vein, the State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption continued its consideration of the 2023 audit reports on Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as it considered audit reports on the State Primary Health Care Development Board and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) with a charge on them to ensure thorough financial documentations and adherence to accountability and probity.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Damilare Bello, who threw the challenge during the consideration of the audit reports on the agencies at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta; re-emphasized that the Committee’s objective was to promote transparency, prevent financial leakages and ensure that public funds are judiciously utilized.

The Committee requested the Board to provide its fixed asset register, tender board approvals, store records, and the 2023 UNICEF grant with the sterling bank account statements, directing that all submitted documents be duly authorized with appropriate signatures.

The Committee requested more supporting documents on other equipment as well as a detailed list of areas affected by emergencies across the State during the period under review.

Responding, Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola and the Director of SEMA, Mr. Olawale Shonde, assured the Committee of their agencies’ readiness to address the issues raised and submit all requested documents accordingly
