Ogun State House of Assembly through its Committee on Agriculture today began consideration of a petition before it by the defunct "Anchor Borrowers Programme Victims" regarding alleged illegal withdrawals from their saving by the Central Bank and as such the Assembly has invited relevant officials and stakeholders involved in the programme.
The Chairman of the House Committee, Hon. Waliu Owode, issuing an invitation to the relevant stakeholders, warned that all those invited including a former Programme Manager of OGADEP, who served as the Secretary of the Committee upon commencement of the programme in 2019, Mrs. Taiwo Ayansanwo, Head of Agric Finance of Wema Bank Plc, Mr. Simeon Alfa, representatives from the Development Finance Office of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Head of Rural Institution Development, the State Agricultural Development Programme ( OGADEP) Mr. Tunde Towolawi should attend the meeting slated for Thursday, 10th of April, 2024 at 1.00pm prompt unfailingly.
Others invited for the meeting included representatives of the State Chapter of the Nigeria Cassava Growers Association, NAMEL-who is the Anchor Borrowers Programme service provider and at least three victims and beneficiaries from each Local Government Area of the State.
Hon. Owode in company of his co-lawmakers stressed the need for the management of OGADEP to furnish the Assembly with the comprehensive list of all the beneficiaries and victims of the programme before the set date, noting that the victims didn't deserve to be exploited for participating in such a laudable programme from the Federal government.
Earlier in his response, the Head of Rural Institution Development of OGADEP, Mr. Towolawi stated that the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security had intervened on the matter the previous week, through a tripartite meeting with the officials from the Central Bank of Nigeria and Wema Bank, with a promise by the Wema Bank to refund the alleged illegal deductions from the victims' bank accounts.
