National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Comrade Julius Abure, has asserted that there is no leadership vacuum in the party, dismissing claims to the contrary as invalid and politically motivated.
Speaking during the ongoing National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the party’s National Secretariat in Utako, Abuja, on Monday, Abure maintained that the Supreme Court judgment did not terminate his tenure or that of the current National Working Committee (NWC).
“There is no vacuum in the leadership of the Labour Party. The Supreme Court judgment did not say the tenure of the current NWC under my leadership has expired,” Abure said.
He criticized the emergence of a parallel group claiming to be a caretaker committee, labeling it as illegal and unknown to the party’s constitution.
“What happened in Umuahia, Abia State, was not a NEC meeting; as such, the so-called caretaker committee is an illegal entity,” he stated, describing the faction as “meddlesome interlopers” with the intent to destabilize the Labour Party.
The comment comes amid growing internal division within the LP, as different factions continue to hold separate meetings and issue conflicting statements regarding the party’s leadership structure.
