Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has placed the blame for Nigeria’s economic struggles squarely on its leadership, asserting that the country’s vast resources should eliminate poverty. He told attendees at an Abia State Government dinner that mismanagement, not divine fate, was the root cause.
Obasanjo commended Governor Alex Otti’s effective governance in Abia, using him as an example of positive leadership. He stressed that widespread adoption of similar leadership practices across Nigeria could significantly improve the nation.
He referenced his past interaction with Rotimi Amaechi, emphasizing the importance of leaders utilizing existing national plans for development. Obasanjo’s message underscored the necessity of informed, responsible leadership.
In his response, Governor Otti expressed gratitude for Obasanjo’s support and recounted his own perseverance in politics, highlighting the value of vision and resilience. Lawmakers and Labour Party officials also praised Otti’s development initiatives and Obasanjo’s continued support of the governor.
