Namibia has declared a significant shift in its immigration policy, announcing its intention to deport more than 500 American nationals who have been found to be residing within its borders without the required valid visas. This decisive action, spearheaded by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, underscores Namibia’s commitment to asserting its sovereignty over immigration matters.
The government maintains that the policy change is a direct response to the existing visa requirements imposed on African citizens by the United States, emphasizing the need for reciprocal treatment. President Nandi-Ndaitwah stated that this is a matter of national dignity and not an act of aggression.
Official government sources have confirmed that the American individuals targeted for deportation include those who have overstayed their allowed time in Namibia and those who entered the country without following the proper legal channels. Namibian immigration officials have already begun the process of serving the necessary deportation notices to the affected individuals.
Furthermore, it has been reported that collaborative efforts are in progress with various law enforcement agencies to ensure that the deportation process is carried out in a lawful and organized manner, with due respect for the rights of all parties involved while upholding Namibia’s immigration regulations.
