Lagos State University (LASU) celebrated its 28th Convocation Ceremony on Thursday, with the spotlight shining brightly on Isioma Sybil Nwosu, the institution’s best graduating student for the 2023/2024 academic session. Nwosu, who achieved an outstanding 4.93 CGPA in Biochemistry, was rewarded with a N10 million cash gift from Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by his deputy Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.
The convocation event also marked the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees on notable figures. Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd.), Chairman of the NDLEA and a former military administrator of Lagos State, received a Doctor of Humane Letters, while former Deputy Governor Otunba Olufemi Pedro was awarded a Doctor of Business.
During the ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu, through his representative, stressed the vital role of education in societal advancement and advocated for the equal recognition of academic excellence alongside achievements in other sectors. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to investing in LASU and its students, aligning with the priority placed on education within the THEMES+ agenda and referencing initiatives aimed at boosting graduate employability.
