The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has alerted the public to disregard a fake notice announcing the 2025 local government elections currently making rounds on social media and various online platforms.
In an official statement released on Friday, the Chairman of the Commission, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (retd), clarified that the purported election notice did not originate from LASIEC.
“It has come to the attention of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) that a fake 2025 notice of elections is circulating online, falsely attributed to the commission,” the statement read.
LASIEC urged Lagosians, particularly political parties and other electoral stakeholders, to ignore the misleading information, stressing that no such announcement has been made by the commission.
“The commission wishes to state unequivocally that such a notice of election did not emanate from LASIEC and hereby advises citizens, especially political parties and all other critical stakeholders, to disregard such publications.”
The Commission reaffirmed that the process for conducting local government elections in Lagos is governed strictly by law.
It assured the public that when the time is right, the official notice of elections will be published through appropriate legal channels.
“The commission reiterates that the conduct of local government elections in Lagos State is guided by existing laws. At the appropriate time, as stipulated by law, the notice of election shall be published in widely circulated newspapers.”
LASIEC emphasized its commitment to transparency and legality in administering the electoral process and warned against the spread of misinformation that could undermine public trust
