In a tense turn of events on Monday morning, security operatives from the Rivers State Police Command deployed teargas to break up a protest in Port Harcourt.

The demonstrators, aligned with the Take It Back Movement, had assembled at Isaac Boro Park around 9:00 a.m. to voice their opposition to a proposed state of emergency in Rivers State. Their gathering was quickly met with a significant police presence, which escalated into a clash.

Eyewitnesses reported that the scene grew chaotic as officers moved in, releasing canisters of teargas to disperse the crowd. Protesters, undeterred at first, could be heard chanting defiantly at the officers, with some shouting, “Nobody can tell us where not to gather, we are Rivers people,” as cited by Channels Television.

Prior to the protest, the Nigeria Police Force had issued a warning urging organizers to call off the demonstration, citing security concerns.

Despite the disruption, no major injuries were immediately reported, though tensions in the state remain high amid ongoing political unrest.
