The Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has launched a proactive tour of communities across the state to identify and address local needs—a move he insists is not tied to election campaigns but driven by a commitment to genuine development.
Governor Okpebholo’s approach, described as hands-on and people-focused, is aimed at resolving long-standing issues such as lack of water, roads, and public services in underserved areas.
Speaking in Benin City, his Special Adviser on Political Mobilization and Engagement, Hon. Eugene Utubor, said the governor is determined to reverse the failures of past administrations by engaging directly with the people.
“His Excellency does not believe in visiting communities only during elections. During our campaign, we saw areas that had never felt government presence. That must change,” Utubor stated.
He added that in visits to communities like those in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, residents shared their challenges, including lack of water and infrastructure, and that the administration is already working on actionable solutions.
“We’re laying the foundation for human capacity development and basic amenities. This synergy between government and the people is critical if we are to achieve true development, especially in rural communities,” he noted.
On the recent wave of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC)—which has now become the majority party in the Edo State House of Assembly—Utubor declared that more high-profile exits from the PDP are imminent.
“Edo is witnessing a political tsunami. Former PDP leaders are collapsing their structures and joining us. The PDP has become rudderless, and with a performing governor like Okpebholo, they see no reason to stay,” he said.
He predicted that in the coming weeks and months, the PDP would virtually disappear from Edo’s political landscape, as more stakeholders rally around Governor Okpebholo’s developmental drive.
