Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former governor of Oyo State, has passed away just days before his 90th birthday.
His death was confirmed in a statement released by the family on Sunday and signed by Oladapo Ogunwusi. “With a heavy heart but gratitude to the Almighty, we announce the passing into glory of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo,” the statement read.
“He was a former governor, mathematician, engineer, and renowned technocrat. His long record of service to the nation and humanity remains a source of pride.” Dr. Olunloyo, who held traditional titles such as the Balogun of Oyo and the Otun Bobasewa of Ife, was the pioneer Rector of both Ibadan Polytechnic and Kwara State Polytechnic.
The family appealed for the public’s understanding as they begin preparations for his burial, adding, “Even from everlasting to everlasting, He is God.”
Olunloyo was previously the subject of false death reports in April 2024 and June 2022, which he publicly debunked, saying at the time, “I’m still here, not yet gone.”
Reflecting on his life, he noted his father died at 42 and his mother at 102, saying, “I’ve crossed the expected life age.”
His death marks the end of an era in Nigerian politics, academia, and public service.
