The Enugu State Police Command has refuted claims of a recent invasion or displacement of residents in Eha-Amufu or any other part of the state, labeling an online report alleging herdsmen takeover of homes and schools in Eha-Amufu as “baseless, mischievous, and a calculated attempt to mislead the public.” Superintendent of Police Daniel Ndukwe, the Command’s Spokesman, clarified that farm settlements mentioned in the report are temporary dwellings used by farmers who periodically return to their villages.
Ndukwe explained that while farmers were temporarily displaced from these settlements during farmer-herder clashes in 2021 and 2022, peace and order have since been restored through joint security operations. He emphasized the Enugu State Government’s efforts in enhancing security in the region, including the deployment of military personnel and Special Forces, the establishment of security agency barracks, and the construction of an access road to farm settlements.
The police spokesman criticized the reporting medium for ignoring these facts and using unrelated pictures to support its claims. He stated that forensic and digital fact-checking revealed the images were from old reports of incidents in neighboring states and other locations, and were misrepresented as recent events in Eha-Amufu. He specifically pointed out the misuse of images from Amnesty International’s condemnation of a February 4th attack in a neighboring state.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mamman Giwa, urged the public to disregard the false report and reaffirmed the commitment of the police and other security agencies to maintaining law and order in the state. The Command called on citizens, particularly those in Eha-Amufu, to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security agencies, and report genuine security concerns through official channels.
