China Retaliates Against US Tariffs, Orders Airlines To Halt Boeing Jet Deliveries

In a direct response to the United States’ imposition of a 145% tariff on Chinese goods, China has reportedly instructed its airlines to cease all further deliveries of Boeing aircraft. Beijing has also allegedly directed Chinese carriers to halt any new purchases of aircraft-related equipment and parts from American companies.

The Chinese government is reportedly exploring measures to support airlines that are currently leasing Boeing jets and are now facing increased operational costs due to the trade dispute. This move comes after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a new 125% levy on Chinese goods, which, when added to an existing 20% tariff imposed over concerns about China’s role in fentanyl production and supply, brings the total tariff to a staggering 145%.

Earlier, Chinese officials, in a statement published on their customs department website, vehemently accused the United States of violating established international trade norms by imposing what they described as “abnormally high tariffs.” Citing Chinese laws and international trade principles, China had already announced adjustments to its tariff measures on imports originating from the United States, increasing them from 84% to 125%.

The statement also indicated that China would effectively disregard any further tariff increases by the U.S., given the existing lack of market acceptance for U.S. goods at the current tariff level. This latest move by China to halt Boeing jet deliveries and equipment purchases marks a significant countermeasure in the escalating trade war. It follows a series of tariff hikes by both nations, with China previously vowing to “fight to the end” against what it perceives as aggressive U.S. trade practices.
