The Local Government Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja has upheld the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, dismissing the Labour Party’s petition.

On Saturday, April 5, 2025, the panel, led by Justice Ityonyiman, ruled in favor of the APC, affirming that Vitalis Neji, the party’s candidate, was the legitimately elected chairman in the September 2024 local government elections.

Justice Ityonyiman, delivering what was termed a “sound judgment,” stated that the petition brought forward by the Labour Party lacked merit, as it failed to present any credible grounds to dispute the results declared by the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC).

The tribunal affirmed that the election had been conducted in substantial compliance with the law, validating Neji’s victory as lawful and proper.

This ruling follows a series of legal challenges and controversies surrounding the handling of local election disputes in the state, especially after the October 5, 2024, local government elections, which have drawn significant public scrutiny.
