The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made a powerful statement in its fight against drug trafficking by destroying a record-breaking 1.6 million kilograms of assorted illegal drugs. The massive disposal operation took place at a remote site along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State, and involved substances like cocaine, heroin, cannabis, codeine, and tramadol, seized from various commands including those in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, and the Lagos airport.

Representing NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa, a senior agency figure conveyed the agency’s resolute commitment to ending the scourge of drug trafficking in Nigeria. This unprecedented act of destruction underscores the government’s firm stance against the drug menace and serves as a direct warning to those involved in the illicit trade. The NDLEA also highlighted its success in achieving over 10,000 convictions in drug-related cases over the past four years, demonstrating the impact of their strengthened operations.

The NDLEA expressed its appreciation for the consistent support provided by the governors of Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo states. Furthermore, they recognized the significant contributions of international partners, including drug enforcement agencies and financial institutions, as well as the vital assistance from Nigeria’s military and paramilitary organizations in their ongoing efforts. Governor Abiodun of Ogun State praised the NDLEA’s dedication and effectiveness.
