Senate Unanimously Passes Vote Of Confidence In President Akpabio

The Senate has overwhelmingly passed a vote of confidence in its President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, reaffirming its support for his leadership.

The decision came just 48 hours after the suspended Chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central), alleged at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in New York that she was suspended for raising accusations of sexual harassment against Akpabio.

In response, the Senate urged Nigerians not to be distracted by the claims, emphasizing that the matter is already before the court.

Citing Order 40 of its standing rules, the Senate asserted that it could not intervene in an issue currently under judicial review.

During Thursday’s plenary session, the motion for a vote of confidence in Akpabio was moved by Senate Leader Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (Ekiti Central) and seconded by Deputy Minority Leader Olalere Oyewumi (Osun West).

The motion was passed unanimously, solidifying Akpabio’s standing within the legislative chamber.
