Controversy Erupts Over Proposed Appointment of Deposed Chief Olatunji Solaja as Oba of Soomo Village

In a significant turn of events in the Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, the Ewusi-in-Council of Makunland has formally protested against the potential appointment of Chief Olatunji Solaja as the traditional ruler of Soomo Village. This move has ignited a firestorm of controversy, as the community grapples with the implications of reinstating a figure previously deposed for misconduct.

The Ewusi-in-Council, acting as the traditional ruler of the community, has submitted a letter of protest to the Honourable Commissioner, outlining several compelling reasons why Chief Solaja should not be considered for the esteemed chieftaincy position. The council emphasizes that Solaja's previous conduct led to his removal as Baale of Soomo Village on February 17, 2016, following a termination letter issued by the council due to his "untoward conduct" within the community.

One of the key points raised in the protest is that Chief Olatunji Solaja is not an indigene of the Makun community, raising questions about his eligibility for the position. The council argues that an appointee should possess a genuine connection to the village and its people, a criterion Solaja fails to meet.

Moreover, the council highlights that Solaja currently faces multiple legal challenges. Notably, two pending cases against him in the Ogun State High Court underscore the ongoing disputes and tensions surrounding his status. The first case, SUIT NO: HCS/152/2024, involves Prince Segun Abiola Soinwa Atobatele as the plaintiff, while the second case, SUIT NO: HCS/683/2022, includes several parties, including the Attorney General of Ogun State and the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

In addition to these court cases, the council has documented various petitions lodged against Solaja at the Ministry, further complicating the prospect of his appointment.
