The people of Ndito Eka Iba village in Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has raised an alarm over the whereabout of nine children who are still missing after they were attacked on the Christmas eve of 2024 by their neighbouring Esit-Eket and Eket LGA over lingering land issues.
The indigenes including youths and elders disclosed this to Newsmen in Ibeno recently.
Mr. Ikot Robert, The Youths’ President of the community, said that some parents have given up hope of seeing their children again as they could not be traced since December last year.
The youths leader added that their people are still being ambushed and maimed along the coastal axis of the community.
According to Robert, the youths of his community have recently captured and handed over five persons to the police. The captured people were on an evil mission of destruction when they were apprehended.
“Some parents have been looking for their children after the incident, but to no avail. The children got missing during the attack in Ndito Eka Iba on the eve of 2024 Christmas.
“For people to miss from that December 2024 till now means that they may have been killed. The community had set up a search party to continue looking for them, while the incident has been reported to the Police for investigation.” Robert said.
He lamented the incessant attacks and destruction of properties of his people by Eket and Esit Eket people as they try to implement the remapping of the state by the previous administration.The refusal of Ibeno people to cede their land is the cause of the problem.
Robert gave the identify of the missing children as, Emmanuel Udoeka (11), Happiness John (8), Ikotiye Okon (6), Thompson John (3), Friday Moses (4), John Mfon (9), Gabriel Akpan (8), Susana Peter (7) and Ubong Benselem (14).
The Ijaw Youth Chairman in Ibeno LGA, Emmanuel Opolo bemoaned the attack, saying that their assailants should not provoke them into retaliation as they have been attacked four times between February 2024 to February 2025.
