Matchday 6 of the Nigeria National League (NNL) 2025 saw Wikki Tourists suffer their first defeat of the season, losing 2-1 to Gombe United at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe on Sunday 19/1/25.
Haruna Aliyu gave Wikki Tourists the lead in the 44th minute with a powerful header from Nasiru Jibrin's corner kick, setting the stage for an intense encounter.
Despite dominating the game for most of the period, Wikki Tourists couldn’t hold onto their lead.
In the 81st minute, Shedrack Anthony leveled the score for Gombe United with an impressive solo effort from a right-wing cross.
The hosts sealed the win in the 86th minute when Hassan Abubakar capitalized on a rebound from the crossbar, heading in the decisive goal to the delight of the home crowd.
Reacting to the loss, Wikki Tourists Head Coach Abdu Maikaba expressed disappointment but promised a thorough review of the match.
"It's very unfortunate to lose after leading for most of the game.
We'll analyze this match carefully to make the necessary corrections ahead of our next fixture," Maikaba said.
Wikki Tourists will aim to bounce back in their next game at home against Sokoto United.
