The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man, Kazeem Sholola, for allegedly pouring hot oil on his wife, Mutiat Sholola, and stabbing her in the head during a domestic dispute.
The incident occurred in the Ring Road community, Owode Egba, Obafemi/Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. It was reported that the suspect, acting in a fit of anger, committed the violent act following a disagreement with his wife.
Confirming the arrest, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, stated that the incident was brought to the attention of the police on Saturday, January 18, 2025, around 12:20 pm, by concerned members of the community.
"The Divisional Police Officer of the Owode Egba Division acted swiftly after receiving a report of this disturbing incident of gender-based violence," the statement read. "The suspect, Kazeem Sholola, poured hot oil on his wife and stabbed her in the head following a domestic misunderstanding. The victim sustained severe burns and injuries and was rushed to Ore Ofé Hospital for treatment."
According to Odutola, the police examined the scene of the attack while the suspect was promptly arrested and is now under investigation.
Community members who reported the case described the incident as horrifying. One neighbor, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “It’s devastating to see this kind of violence. We could not stand by and do nothing, so we called the police immediately.”
Mutiat Sholola, the victim, is said to be receiving medical care for her injuries. Her condition remains critical but stable, according to hospital sources.
The Ogun State Police Command reiterated its commitment to addressing cases of domestic violence and ensuring that perpetrators face the full weight of the law.
