Amb. Ogunsola Sets Ambitious Agenda to Boost Revenue and Enforce Traffic Laws in Obafemi Owode LG

 

Obafemi Owode, Ogun State – In a strategic move aimed at enhancing the economic landscape of Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, Amb. Adesina 'Lanre Ogunsola, FCPA, the Executive Chairman, has unveiled plans to increase the revenue base of the council. This initiative is in line with the federal government's proposed Tax Reform under President Tinubu, which seeks to revitalize the nation’s economy.

During a recent meeting held in his office at Owode-Egba with members of the Zonal Community Development Committee (CDC), Ogunsola highlighted key agenda items including Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), road grading, house numbering, community rates, and the enforcement of traffic laws. He emphasized the significance of Obafemi Owode as a burgeoning business hub due to its strategic proximity to Lagos and Oyo States, necessitating proactive governance.

Ogunsola pointed out the urgent need to enforce traffic regulations, particularly to mitigate the alarming rate of pedestrian accidents along the Ofada, Mowe, and Magboro corridors. He reiterated that the traffic law enforcement initiative, a part of the bye-laws established during his first term, is crucial for the safety of residents and road users alike.

The enforcement campaign will be conducted in collaboration with relevant agencies, including the Federal Road Safety Corps, Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE), and the Nigeria Police Force. This joint operation aims to ensure a robust enforcement mechanism that prioritizes public safety.

Encouraging community participation, Ogunsola called on the Community Development Associations (CDAs) to support the local government's revenue generation efforts. He underscored the importance of collective responsibility in governance, stating that the council's success depends on the collaboration between the local government and community stakeholders. He also urged CDA chairpersons to work alongside government revenue personnel to eliminate impersonators who pose as local government agents for personal gain.

In a show of commitment to improving infrastructure, Ogunsola announced that road grading would commence across the 12 wards, starting with Ofada Ward, to enhance transportation and accessibility within the council area.

As he embarks on his second term in office, Ogunsola emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards thuggery and any form of misconduct during revenue collection. He expressed his desire to work closely with the CDAs and CDCs as partners in progress, reinforcing the need for transparency and accountability in governance.

Engr. Adeleke, speaking on behalf of the Zonal CDC, commended Ogunsola for his forward-thinking approach, acknowledging that the traffic law enforcement initiative is long overdue given the increasing frequency of accidents involving pedestrians and motorists on the expressway. He reiterated the CDC's unwavering support for the policies set forth by the council.

The community's collective effort and support for Ogunsola's agenda signal a promising future for Obafemi Owode Local Government as it seeks to enhance its revenue sources while ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.
