A Birthday Reflection and a Call to Action-----Monday Ozoya

Today is my birthday, and while I am grateful for another year, my heart is heavy with reflection. January 15th also marks the Nigerian Armed Forces Remembrance Day—a day to honour the heroes and heroines who have given their all for our beloved nation.

As someone who has served on special task forces and participated in peacekeeping missions in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea, I have witnessed our servicemen and women's dedication, sacrifice, and bravery firsthand. Yet, when I think of the veterans who share this day with me—those who have returned home, often neglected, facing untold challenges—I am compelled to speak up.

We cannot continue to overlook the welfare of our veterans. How can we expect unwavering commitment from our serving officers and men when they see their future uncertain after years of sacrifice? Our veterans deserve more than a day of remembrance; they deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, and care.

I urge the Nigerian government to review and address the welfare of our veterans. Let us honour their service with words and meaningful action—adequate healthcare, housing, pensions, and opportunities for engagement in tackling the security challenges facing our country.

Today, as we remember the fallen heroes and heroines, let us also stand for the living ones who bear the scars of their sacrifice. Their courage and dedication built the foundation for the peace and security we enjoy.

To my friends, family, and followers, join me in amplifying this message. Together, we can persuade our leaders to ensure our veterans receive the respect and support they deserve.

May the memories of our fallen heroes inspire us to do better for those who remain. Let this day be a turning point for change.
