In a proactive move to ensure safety and orderliness on Ogun State's major traffic corridors during the festive season, the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has announced the deployment of its full operational resources for 24-hour emergency services. This initiative is aimed at guaranteeing the safety of motorists and other road users throughout the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The special patrol operation, which commenced on December 20, 2024, will run until January 6, 2025, in alignment with TRACE's Yuletide Special Patrol Schedule. According to a statement from Cmdr. 'Seni Ogunyemi, the Commander General and Chief Executive of TRACE, the operation will cover 18 major traffic corridors, including key routes such as the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Interchange-Sagamu-Ijebu/Ode-Benin/Ore Expressway, and the Abeokuta-Kobape-Siun-Interchange Expressway, among others.
TRACE’s initiative not only focuses on monitoring high and low capacity vehicles but also emphasizes the importance of collaboration with other safety and security agencies in the state. Through the TRACE Traffic Whistle Blower Initiative, the TRACE Emergency Traffic Service, and the Community Based Traffic Management Scheme (TRACE MAYORS), the agency aims to foster a collective responsibility for road safety among all road users.
Cmdr. Ogunyemi has urged motorists and the general public to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, emphasizing that safety is a shared responsibility. He underscored the need for law-abiding behavior, particularly during the bustling holiday season, to prevent chaos that could lead to dangerous situations. In a stern warning, he stated that any vehicle found in violation of traffic rules during this period would remain impounded until January 7, 2025, following the conclusion of TRACE’s Yuletide Special Operation Order.
To ensure the effectiveness of this operation, commanding officers have been directed to guarantee that TRACE operatives maintain professionalism, civility, and fairness in the execution of their duties. The presence of TRACE officials is expected to enhance public confidence in road safety measures, providing reassurance to travelers during this busy time of year.
