Additionally, there are claims of Rev Ezego slaughtering a cow daily or a notorious kidnapper enjoying life like a president, shuttling between his residence and Kirikiri prison in grand style. These sensational stories often overshadow the ongoing legal proceedings, turning serious matters into fodder for public gossip.
As an individual, I have experienced the harsh realities of social media condemnation. Upon becoming a federal legislator, I was falsely reported to have divorced my ex-spouse. Those who labeled my new marriage as child abuse are now still single, while I celebrate a solid, fruitful, and unblemished 11 years of marriage. It serves as a stark reminder that behind every screen is a real person deserving of kindness and respect.
We must refrain from preempting legal cases and avoid condemning individuals or placing a moral burden on our judges. The misuse of social media can have severe consequences, and we should use our online presence to uplift and support one another. Families grieving the loss of loved ones are among those affected by the insensitivity often displayed online. It is deeply unfair to link tragic events to unfounded prophecies or to involve individuals like Adedoyin, whose case is still pending in court, in speculative narratives.
Let us be vigilant about the information we consume online and avoid jumping to conclusions without knowing the full story. Social media can quickly turn against individuals, as seen in the cases mentioned. Even respected figures, like Baba Adeboye, have faced the wrath of social media trials.
The speed and reach of social media can devastate individuals and communities alike. It is imperative that we use our platforms to promote positivity and support. In this digital landscape, we must remain aware of the potential consequences of our online actions and strive to foster an environment of kindness, empathy, and understanding.
