Federal lawmaker, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka —GNI has strongly condemned the assault on the Principal of Alaketu High School, Imeko, describing it as a catastrophic failure of discipline and respect in the educational system.
The attack, which took place during the School's assembly on December 5, involved a group of senior secondary students, reportedly joined by peers from nearby Nazareth High School, who surrounded and assaulted the principal in a chaotic escalation of tensions.
The assault has since been condemned by the Federation of Imeko-Afon Local Government Students' Union (FIALGSU), the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), as well as Association of Secondary School Teachers (ASUSS) in the local government.
Isiaka, who represents Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives described the attack on the Principal as an assault on the foundations of the educational system, community values, and the sacred trust between educators and students.
He commended FIALGSU, ANCOPSS and ASUS for demonstrating leadership in swiftly and unequivocally denouncing the violence.
GNI also pledged to ensure that the perpetrators face appropriate punishment.
His statement reads in full;
"I am deeply disturbed by the violent attack on the principal of Alaketu High School, Imeko, which represents a catastrophic failure of discipline and respect in our educational institutions.
"This brutal act is not only an attack on an individual but also an assault on the very fabric of our educational system, values, and the sacred trust between educators and students. It is a dangerous descent into lawlessness, and no grievance or tension justifies physical violence against an educator in a learning environment.
"I stand in solidarity with the Federation of Imeko-Afon Local Government Students' Union (FIALGSU), the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), as well as Association of Secondary School Teachers (ASUSS) in condemning this reprehensible act.
"We must reject violence as a means of expression and restore dignity to our educational institutions.
"Rest assured, we shall follow up with this case most dutifully to ensure justice is served—not just as retribution, but as a message to all students regarding the unacceptability of violence within our institutions of learning.
Our schools must remain sanctuaries of learning, growth, and mutual respect. This act does not represent who we are; Imeko and indeed the entire Ogun State is better than this." He submitted.
