The Ogun State Government joined the global community in commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, highlighting the resilience, leadership, and contributions of persons with disabilities to societal progress. The year 2024 theme, *“Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,”* emphasizes the need to empower individuals with disabilities to play active roles in shaping policies and programs for a better society.
In a press statement, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, reaffirmed the State Government’s dedication to inclusivity.
She praised the leadership of Governor Prince Adedapo Abiodun, CON, for fostering a society where persons with disabilities are not just recipients of aid but active participants in decision-making. “Their lived experiences and unique perspectives are invaluable in crafting solutions that promote inclusivity and sustainability,” Adeleye stated.
The Commissioner also commended the ongoing efforts of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development with the support of the State Governor, in empowering persons with disabilities.
According to her recent interventions include the provision of mobility aids, professional tools, and digital educational devices for various disability clusters. These initiatives build on prior programs aimed at supporting and integrating persons with disabilities into mainstream society.
She noted that looking ahead, the State Government, in collaboration with public and private stakeholders, remained committed to advancing accessible education, equitable employment, inclusive healthcare, and the elimination of societal stereotypes.
