The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, is gearing up for its much-anticipated Press Week celebration, scheduled to take place from December 8th to 13th, 2024. This year’s event promises a dynamic lineup of activities centered around the theme: “Unlocking the Potential of Agriculture for Economic Development: The Roles of the Media.”
The celebration will kick off with a Church Thanksgiving service at Victory Life Bible Church on December 8th, where attendees are expected to gather from 10 am to 12 pm to give thanks and set a positive tone for the week ahead.
On December 9th, the festivities will officially commence with an Opening Ceremony and Symposium at the Aremo Olusegun Osoba Hall, Iwe Iroyin, Abeokuta, running from 10 am to 3 pm. The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, will grace the occasion as the guest of honor, while the Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, will serve as the keynote speaker, sharing insights on the pivotal role of media in agricultural development.
The subsequent days will be packed with enriching activities, including training and capacity-building sessions for members on December 10th, designed to enhance the skills and competencies of journalists in the region. This will take place at Iwe Iroyin from 10 am to 3 pm.
A community-focused Fitness Walk is set for December 11th, starting from the Iwe Iroyin Secretariat at 7 am, encouraging health and wellness among participants. The following day, December 12th, will feature a health screening for members, along with a visit to Oba Prison to distribute gifts, followed by an evening hangout with members of the Ogun State House of Assembly.
The week will culminate on December 13th with Jumat prayers at Nawarudeen Central Mosque, leading into the Grand Finale, Dinner, and Awards Night. This event will take place at the President Muhammadu Buhari Telemedicine Hall within the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, starting at 6 pm.
Comrade Bunm Adigun, the Secretary of the Ogun State Council of NUJ, expressed excitement about the upcoming celebration. “We look forward to a memorable Press Week that not only highlights the importance of agriculture in our economy but also strengthens the bond among journalists in Ogun State,” he stated.
The NUJ invites all members of the media, stakeholders, and the general public to join in this week-long celebration, promoting awareness and collaboration in the quest for agricultural advancement and economic prosperity in Nigeria.
