Ogun State House of Assembly today conducted its carol of nine lessons with a charge to Nigerians to imbibe the essence of the period as exemplified by Jesus Christ, who symbolizes selflessness, love and sacrifice for mankind.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, threw the challenge in his Christmas message, shortly after reading the ninth lesson taken from Hebrew 1: verse 1-12 at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Elemide emphasised that love, giving, selflessness and reminiscence were parts of the expectations of God from the righteous, noting that " God does not want man to perish, he wants us to enjoy His first foundational plan for human beings that was lost in the Garden of Eden".
He called on the leadership in all spheres to be ready to sacrifice for the people, while advising Nigerians to celebrate with moderation and not over react to issues.
He promised that with the support of his co-lawmakers, the Assembly workforce should expect more welfare programmes in the coming year.
Earlier in his sermon at the event, the Pastor in charge of the Redeemed Christians Church of God, Ogun Province 15, Femi Ogbontigba, described Jesus Christ as a great counsellor and guidance that is always ready to show mercy in all matters, urging Christians to always keep faith with Him at all times.
In his welcome address, the Coordinator of the Assembly Christians Chapel, Mr. Olanrewaju Olonade, noted that "Jesus as a great counsellor wants Christians to always have reason to rejoice, as He will continue to guide the righteous aright".
According to him, this season was an assurance of the need for Christians not to be afraid, rather, they should always rejoice in Christ in all things.
Other lawmakers that read lessons at the Carol service included the Deputy Speaker, Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi as well as Honourables Oluseun Adesanya, Babatunde Tella, Damilola Soneye and Musefiu Lamidi.
