DIKKO PROMISES TO UNITE SUPPORTERS CLUBS

National Sports Commission (NSC) chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko has moved to unite the various Supporters Clubs in the country.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Authentic Nigerian Football and Allied Sports Supporters Club led by Prince Abayomi Ogunjimi, Dikko opined that the nation's sports will be better served with a unified supporters club.

His words, "I want us to have one supporters club in this country. If you stay together as a broom it is more difficult to break. We will try to unite all the groups. We will do that without putting anyone under the bus."

Dikko encouraged the group to continue mobilizing support for the national teams.

"Continue what you are doing. You are the twelfth man on the pitch. So keep mobilizing the supporters and fans", he said.

He commended Ogunjimi for his approach and diligence over the years.

"I like the way you operate and I have to say that this is how things should be done. You hardly go to the media to complain. You do it privately even when you are angry", he continued.

The NSC helmsman tasked Ogunjimi and other supporters clubs to help create the awareness about fans' involvement in merchandising.

"The fans should not just support. They should not just be supporting the players. They should put both their hearts and pockets into the game. By this I mean they should support the game and still put their hands in their pocket. They have to buy the replica jerseys and everything that is available to support the sport and the clubs", he concluded.

Earlier, Ogunjimi had joined the bandwagon praising the president for Dikko's appointment.

"We believe that with this appointment our sport is going to take a new shape. There is no doubt that you will take it to the next level. We thank the president for this appointment", he said.
