Meet Badagry Divisional Football Association Executive Chairman who spoke with Amebo Newspaper Esther Egbe recently about the success story and more.
Can we meet you Sir?
My name is Dr Osondu Martins Ibegbu, the Executive Chairman Badagry Divisional Football Association, a Sport Administrator, a Football License Coach and a Theologist
How long have you been the chairman of the Badagry division?
I have been with the Badagry Division Association for the pass 24 years, i became the Badagry Chairman in March 2023 last year .
So far how have been able to manage the great Football of Badagry people and the association i know it not easy?
In Football Lagos has five division, among this five division Badagry is said to be the biggest. So talking about the management of the Badagry people, they believe we are all one, as you can see I am from the East (Abia State to be precise)I am happy to be their Chairman of Badagry division and so i get all the love i needed from the Badagry division and its people, by the grace of God i find it more easy to work with them and it has been so peaceful.
What is Badagry Division playing at the moment?
As you can see Badagry division on is like every other one, but we don't have Premier League team yet, but the only division that has Premier, that is Ikorodu City and other division has NNL and Badagry too is working towards that direction. We have about 12 teams in the Badagry division plays NLO, well we are all seeking for promotion, but this season will favor us, and we will promote and start playing the Professional League.
How can you see Ikorodu City since they got their promotion, what can you really say about them?
This is their first Premier League experience and we should be expecting maximum of ninety percent of errors, then ten percent perfection from them. Because I know they are facing challenges for now, but i know they will pick up soon when they start getting more games. Ikorodu City have young promising players and soon they will pick up I believe.
How do you manage challenges of players and you said that Badagry has like 12 teams playing the NLO, because that a lot of players i must say, so how do you manage them?
Badagry Division has over six hundred football clubs in its Division, so players management is all about being sincere to yourself ,so you can be sincere to others so i have never had any issues with players or see clubs complain about others snatching their players so we are one big peaceful family. challenge of players transfer transactions Like giving out players to other clubs with mutual agreement . Football is not what only one person can build, Football is everyone games coming together making impact on football and also players. But with the right documentation for players we are good to go.
Does Badagry have any upcoming tournament plans for the season?
Yes,our OBA AKRAN CUP is already in the Quarter finals despite over 68 teams registered for this tournament also the Rising stars Football league RSFL is coming up in the next 2weeks which has over 96 teams taking part in it. 13 sport centers under the Badagry Division will be used for the program and it is free which the winner will be getting eleven Million Naira as cash prize.
I want to know ,must every player in the team come from badagry?
We also welcome outside teams too, but the most important thing our own is our own.The winner gets 11 Million naira and then some financial prices too are to be won like best coach 1 Million naira, best player 1 Million naira and best referee 1 Million naira also and teams gets 20 thousands naira for every appearance, they will make for 22 times, at the end of the day any body that win 50 thousand naira also every week the best player gets 20 thousands naira ,best player of the month gets 50 thousands naira till the tournament goes to an end, so over one hundred millions cash prizes are to be won .
