PDP Cheiftain, Toyin Amuzu Condemned Arrest Of Gaffar Asaolu, Asks Governor Abiodun To Face Security Concerns

He called on the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun to face the growing security concerns in the state and put an end to political witch-hunts by releasing Gaffar Asaolu who was arrested on trumped-up charges.

Amuzu’s plea comes on the heels of the continuous detention of Gaffar Asaolu, an aide to Hon. Ladi Adebutu, who was the Director of Finance of the Atiku-Okowa Campaign committee in Ogun State, in the 2023 elections.

Amuzu condemned the killer squad name tag, unfair arrest and detention of Asaolu, citing his connection to Adebutu, who was also arrested twice by the DSS and police. He said Adebutu was later released when no evidence was found against him, while Asaolu remains in detention.

According to Amuzu, “this is a clear case of political persecution and an affront to democracy.

“The government should focus on addressing the real security challenges facing our state, which include ritual killings, cult clashes and killings, robbery, kidnapping, and political violence especially from the ruling party rather than harassing innocent citizens, he said. ”

Amuzu’s concerns are echoed by many in the state, who feel that government’s actions are tantamount to intimidation and harassment, after the recent LG election sham which has only added to the tensions in the state, with many accusing the government of using strong-arm tactics to silence opponents.

As Amuzu noted, “The illegal arrest and detention of citizens without sufficient evidence is a clear violation of their fundamental human rights.”

He called on the government to respect the rule of law and ensure that all citizens are treated fairly and justly.

“The people of Ogun State deserves better, and it’s time for the government to take action to address the growing security concerns and put an end to political witch-hunts”, Amuzu said.
