Financial Boost Inspires Players
The 40 players selected from Gateway United's preseason trials are competing for a final spot on the team at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode.
These players, identified from the four zones of Ogun State, are currently in camp in Ijebu Ode. They participated in two sessions today—morning and evening—under the close observation of the 10-member preseason trial committee.
The final selection is scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, November 21, 2024.
To further encourage and support the players, the Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka provided each of them with a ₦20,000 feeding allowance for the two-day trials. This gesture reflects the government’s commitment to supporting grassroots talent and fostering an enabling environment for athletes to thrive.
Speaking on the progress, the chairman of the committee, Biodun Odejimi, expressed satisfaction with the players' performance and potential:
"Tomorrow is the final showdown, but we are excited by what we saw today. The players demonstrated hunger and a commendable level of professionalism needed to compete in league football. Once selected and properly trained, they will be battle-ready."
Odejimi also commended the fairness of the selection process:
"The committee is not only proud of this selection but also pleased with the meritocracy applied in choosing these players."
