An eyewitness recounted how the haulage truck lost control, crushing a tricycle, also known as Keke NAPEP.
No fewer than six people were killed, and five others sustained injuries in a multiple vehicle accident involving two tricycles, a haulage truck carrying tiles, and a lorry loaded with soft drinks on Akanran Road in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The crash occurred on Monday at Oke Eleshin, Amuloko in the Ona Ara Local Government Area of the state.
Among the injured was a pupil whose mother reportedly died in the accident. Two children were treated as outpatients at the Amuloko City Hospital, while two others with severe injuries were admitted for further treatment, The PUNCH reports.
A staff member of the Oyo Road Transport Maintenance Agency, who spoke on condition of anonymity, stated, “The accident occurred in the early hours of today (Monday).
“It was caused by brake failure of the trailer that was descending the slope of the road.”

The eyewitness added, “We learnt that six persons died while five persons sustained injuries. They have all been conveyed away from here.”
Sympathisers at the scene blamed the truck driver for not swerving into a ditch to avoid the incoming tricycle. Two other cars were damaged in the accident, which caused significant traffic congestion.
The Managing Director of the Amuloko City Hospital, Raji Wale, confirmed that some of the victims were brought to his hospital.
“Six victims were brought here with varying degrees of injury... two have been treated as out-patient victims,” he said.
The state Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Mary Alo, confirmed the accident but said she was yet to receive full details of the incident.
