Ogun: Distribution of Over 3 Million Insecticide Treated Nets Begins Tomorrow 31s of October Across 20 LGA’s

Ogun State Government in collaboration with Global Fund Malaria (GFM) and Society for Family Health (SFH), will begin the distribution of Insecticide Treated Nets across twenty local government of Ogun state tomorrow 31st of October 2024.

The programme is designed to target mainly pregnant women and children under the age of 5 years across the state to reduce their yealy death from malaria.

According to the project director, Global Fund Malaria, Society For Family Health SFH, Mr John Ochoi, The goals of the distribution is to eradicate malaria completely across Nigeria, the targetted people are majorly pregnant women and children under the age of five years.

Speaking further on the modalities the distribution, Mr John Ochoi said the distribution of the Insecticide Treated Nets ITN will be done in a double face to the households, saying the distribution of the nets will reduce financial burden committed to medical care among Nigerians if properly used.

Also he said the projects has adequately employed 14,000 medical personnel who are going to be staged across the twenty local government to ensure everyone is captured, he said health centers will be prioritized as major collection center due to the fact that they have records of people in their various locations.

He also said the distribution will focused more on rural areas where people battles with different diseases including malaria to bring succour to them.

“During the distribution of the Insecticide Treated Nets ITN’s our medical personnel will generate a token for the households which they will take to the designated point for collection of their nets, we urge every household to attend to our people whenever they approach their respective houses”

Daniel Gbue, The Media Communications Manager, said malaria kills an average of 9 people in an hour saying one out of five death caused by malaria in the world, one or two are from Nigeria.

He said malaria has been a common cause of death of people in Nigeria and the only way to curb this death is by ensuring the usage of Insecticide Treated Nets ITN‘s in our households.
