The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), South Wing has condemned the Honorable Minister for Petroleum Resources Senator Heineken Lokpobiri and the Minister of States Petroleum Resources (Gas) Ekperikpe Ekpo over the current poor welfare of state of the people of the oil-rich  Niger Delta region Nigeria. In a statement by the spokesperson of the movement, Commander Endurance Azalla on Thursday 22nd August 2024 in Yengoa, Azalla strongly condemned Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo Minister of (Gas) and Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of Petroleum Resources (Oil), accusimg them of prioritizing "personal interests over the welfare of the region's people", particularly the stakeholders of the Ijaw nation and Niger Delta agitators who have contributed to the current peace in the oil sector.

Commander Azalla criticized both ministers of oil and gas  for allegedly using Jonathan Lokpobiri who is "...parading his self as the leadership of ijaw youth Council Worldwide and other favored individuals, while neglecting the genuine owners of the struggle for peace and unity in the region...whom he has led to untold hardship for the people of the Niger Delta".

Commander Azalla expressed disappointment that the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021 does not favor the host communities, who are the original oil-producing communities. He emphasized that the ministers of oil and gas have never engaged with stakeholders or consulted with them on issues affecting the region since they came to power.

Commander Azalla vowed that he will not take the issue lightly and will continue to push for a first-class solution to address the injustices faced by the host communities. He warned that SouthWing MEND will be forced to take action, including organizing a world press conference to call for the redeployment of Senator Lokpobiri and Ekperikpe Ekpo to other Ministries over what he described as their "incompetence". He also threatened to expose their alleged illegal activities if they don'tchange their ways.

"SouthWing MEND demands a comprehensive solution that prioritizes the needs and concerns of the host communities, and we will not rest until this is achieved by the Ministers of Petroleum Sesources, Oil and Gas Lokpobiri and Ekpo".

On the issue of Jonathan Lokpobiri cousin to Senator Lokpobiri, Commander Azalla warned that "Jonathan Lokpobiri your leadership style is already affecting the youths of Niger Delta, the IYC is not your family business. We all made you where you are today, remember your contemporaries are performing way better than you. Don't force the youths of N/Delta to act against you with your oligarchy system. We genuinely know that you are not in the arm struggle of the region. Some of you are just missed placed priority in the system."

Azzala further cautioned the IYC President not to lead the youths astray, which will have consequences. "Be mindful of the influence you hold over young minds. Misleading or guiding them astray can have long-lasting, detrimental effects on their lives."

"Remember, leadership is about setting a positive example, providing guidance, and empowering others. Please reevaluate your actions and ensure you're leading with integrity and honesty, or we will call you to order".
