It is our key mandate to protect the lives and property of Nigerian citizens and we will not fold our arms and allow fifth columnists to instigate Nigerians and its youth against the Federal Government under the pretence of staging demonstrations, the Commandant General of the Corps, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi mni, OFR speaking today through the Acting Zonal Commander, Zone F, Commandant of Corps Abidemi Majekodunmi clearly stated that,
"The present economic hardship is not peculiar to Nigeria alone, it is a known fact that the world is facing serious general crises including inflation and food supply shortages which is further accentuated by the climatic change and the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine".
According to DSC Olaleye Tunde, The Zonal Public Relations Officer, We urge the Nigerian youths not to allow themselves be used by faceless people who have other sinister reasons for calling for protests. The youths are advised to work with the government through dialogue and other engagement protocols. Students are also enjoined to take advantage of the Students Loan Scheme which will attract no interest to help Nigerian youths achieve their quest in both formal education and vocational trainings.
While we wish to acknowledge the constitutional rights of Nigerians to hold peaceful protests, key indicators have shown that the proposed protests are likely to be hijacked by desperate criminal non state actors. Certainly, no security agency in a sovereign state will fold its hands and allow such to happen. In view of this, the NSCDC and all other security agencies are working in tandem to ensure that no protest will be allowed to cause breakdown of law and order which ultimately may result in chaos, pandemonium, stealing, vandalisation, robbery and breach of public peace.
The Corps is hereby using this medium to advise the Youths, Civil Society Organizations, NGO's and CBO's to stay away from ill motivated protests and go about their legitimate businesses as guaranteed by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Furthermore, the Corps is hereby advising those clamouring for the protests to be objective, civil and constructive in seeking the attention of government in the areas they think government should be engaged through 'ideal democratic paradigm'.
"I want to assure all and sundry that the NSCDC and other sister agencies still remain committed to upholding human rights, rule of law and justice. We will make sure that our job and responsibilities are carried out according to international world best practices".
