The recent tanker explosion that happened yesterday Saturday 27,April 2024 is one explosion too many when one decides to take stock and count the number of fuel tanker explosions that have occurred in ogun state since 2021 one can count at the very least eight incidents were fuel tankers either liquid or gas have exploded either as a result of an accident or as a result of overloading or as a result of human or mechanical error this spate of wanton destruction of property and life is unacceptable to the African Democratic Congress ADC in Ogun state.
It's not right that every time we have to take people to the hospital, spend a lot of money rehabilitating the roads where the accidents have occurred it's not right that the lives of people are cut short in their prime, it's not right that people leave their homes and not come back, not as the results of any fault of theirs but faults of other road users especially tanker drivers.
The ogun state government needs to look into this as we condemn in serious terms the destruction of property and elimination of lives.
The list of fuel tanker explosions in ogun state since 2021 are:
19, January 2021 Kuto
28, November 2021 - Lafenwa
23, July 2021- Ogere Remo
3, September 2022- Lambe, Ifo LGA
6, October 2022 - Tollgate Lagos ABK express.
12, December 2022 - IJEBUODE/Shagamu express
20, October 2023- Mosimi Shagamu (this one was special because there were 4 tanker explosions in two days across the state).
If course we sympathise with the families who have lost dear ones and we commensurate with the Ogun state Government for the loss of lives and livelihood caused by these tragic events but the continued occurrence of these explosions leaves a lot to be desired.
The OGUN STATE government led by His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun should do whatever it takes, Sack whoever is in charge and effect the changes in policy and execution that will keep us the citizens safe from the fireball of an exploding tanker.
ABIORO ITUNU TEMITAYO
