The Mandate Movement (TMM) has formally petitioned Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, highlighting concerns about potential discord within the All Progressives Congress (APC). Specifically addressing Cardinal James Odunmbaku 'Baba Eto' and Chief of Staff Mr. Tayo Ayinde, TMM urges immediate intervention to prevent a crisis.
The petition raises worries about Baba Eto and Tayo Ayinde, claiming to represent the authentic Mandate Movement, potentially causing confusion within the party. Cardinal James Odunmbaku, a former chairman of the group, is accused of promoting factions and misleading activities. Emphasizing the need for unity, especially during challenging times, the petition underscores the importance of collective support.
"The Mandate Movement (TMM) urgently seeks your attention on a matter that has far-reaching implications for the unity of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the peaceful coexistence of the residents of Lagos. Our focus is on the actions of a member of your advisory Council, Cardinal James Odunmbaku 'Baba Eto', and your chief of staff, Mr. Tayo Ayinde. We implore your immediate intervention to prevent potential discord within our party."
Signed by representatives from different senatorial districts, the petition highlights the seamless leadership transition within The Mandate Movement. It stresses the significance of standing together with Governor Sanwo-Olu and President Bola Tinubu, exposing alleged misinformation about supporting a Labour Party candidate during the 2023 elections.
"These sets of people have peddled lies to Mr. President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the general public that our group worked for the candidate of Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, and that's why, to date, despite the huge resources deployed into 2023 campaigns and elections, only our group has been denied the goodies of working for the ruling party both at the state and at federal level," the petition reads.
However, the petition warns of potential internal strife within the APC in Lagos State if these factions persist. It urges Governor Sanwo-Olu to thoroughly investigate and take corrective action against Odunmbaku and Ayinde's activities to safeguard the party's internal harmony.
Acknowledging the APC's achievements, the petition emphasizes the need to preserve unity for continued progress. It calls for Governor Sanwo-Olu's leadership to address concerns and maintain the shared vision for the state's progress.
Expressing gratitude for the governor's commitment, the Mandate Movement underscores the critical importance of unity as the APC navigates political milestones. The APC awaits Governor Sanwo-Olu's response, hopeful that swift action will avert potential crises and maintain party unity in Lagos State.
The group finally stressed that to further strengthen this unity, it is crucial that Sanwo-Olu addresses the imbalance in the state's appointment scheme. They asserted that Baba Eto and Tayo Ayinde are intentionally exploiting the situation because of the upcoming local government elections.
They advised the governor to uphold fairness in appointments to ensure the integrity of the party's representation and maintain a united front as the APC approaches crucial political milestones.
