The Ogunsanya quadruplets, Toks, Temi, Tobi and Tolu, have achieved a remarkable feat by graduating from the same university in the United Kingdom with Masters degrees on the same day.
The 23-year-old siblings, who are a set of identical sisters and identical brothers, were born in Nigeria and moved to the UK with their parents when they were seven years old.
The quads, as they are fondly called, attended the same primary and secondary schools before enrolling at the prestigious Warwick University for their undergraduate studies. They all graduated with first-class degrees in 2019, with Toks and Temi studying chemical engineering, Tobi studying economics, and Tolu studying mechanical engineering.
They decided to continue their education at the same university, pursuing Masters degrees in different fields. Toks and Temi specialized in biomedical engineering, Tobi in finance and economics, and Tolu in engineering business management. They completed their courses in December 2021 and received their degrees in a joint graduation ceremony on January 22, 2022.
The quads attribute their academic success to their supportive parents, who encouraged them to pursue their passions and work hard. They also credit their close bond as siblings, saying they always helped each other with assignments and projects. They said they enjoyed studying at Warwick University because of its diverse and friendly environment.
“We are very proud of ourselves and grateful to God for this achievement. It was not easy, but we had each other’s backs and motivated each other along the way. We also had amazing lecturers and classmates who made our learning experience enjoyable,” Temi said.
Toks added: “We are very happy to share this special moment with our parents, who have sacrificed a lot for us. They always pushed us to do our best and never gave up on us. They are our role models and we hope to make them proud in everything we do.”
The quads are not only academically gifted, but also talented in other areas. They are all musicians who play various instruments such as piano, guitar, saxophone and drums. They also have a YouTube channel where they post covers of popular songs and original compositions. They said they use music as a way of expressing themselves and relaxing after studying.
The quads have also been involved in various extracurricular activities and volunteer work during their time at Warwick University. They have participated in student societies, sports clubs, mentoring programs and charity events. They said they wanted to give back to the community and make a positive impact on others.
The quads are among the few cases of quadruplets who have graduated from the same university with Masters degrees. According to the Multiple Births Foundation, the chances of having quadruplets naturally are one in 700,000. The Ogunsanyas are also believed to be the first Nigerian quadruplets to achieve this feat.
The quads have received widespread recognition and praise for their accomplishment, both in Nigeria and in the UK.
They have been featured in several media outlets, such as BBC News, The Guardian, The Daily Mail and BellaNaija. They have also received congratulatory messages from prominent figures, such as the Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK, Sarafa Tunji Isola, and the Vice-Chancellor of Warwick University, Stuart Croft.
The quads said they are humbled by the attention they have received and hope to inspire other young people to pursue their dreams. They said they plan to further their education by pursuing PhDs or professional qualifications in their respective fields. They also hope to use their skills and knowledge to contribute to the development of Nigeria and the world at large.
“We are very grateful for this opportunity and we don’t take it for granted. We know we have a responsibility to use our talents for good and make a difference in society. We hope our story will encourage others to follow their passions and work hard to achieve their goals,” Tobi said.
Tolu concluded: “We are very excited about the future and what it holds for us. We believe that with God’s help, nothing is impossible. We want to thank everyone who has supported us and cheered us on. We appreciate you all.”
