Kano’s Governor Yusuf Sacked By Election Tribunal Appoints

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, who was sacked by the governorship election petition tribunal in the state, has approved the appointment of 94 additional media aides.

According to a statement issued by Governor Yusuf’s Press Secretary, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, in Kano on Tuesday, the appointments take immediate effect.

It identified the five women among the appointees as Rahama Kabeer Fagge, Senior Special Reporter I, Government House; Amina Isah Bebeji, Special Reporter, SEMA; Maijidda Garba, Special Reporter, REB; Fatima Usman Muhammad, Senior Special Reporter, KNARDA; and Asiya Muhammad Umar, Special Reporter, Hospitality Management Institute.

In August, Governor Yusuf appointed 81 persons to serve as his aides with 52 of them appointed at once – 10 as Special Advisers and 42 as Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants.

Also, in the first week of September, the state government announced the appointment of 115 new aides to serve as Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants and Special Reporters, pushing the number of his aides to 196.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, revealed at the time that 14 of the new appointees would serve as Special Advisers while 57 would serve as Senior Special Assistants, and the other 44 appointees, who were all said to be social media activists, would serve as Senior Special Reporters and Special Reporters.

Meanwhile, the Kano State Governorship Election Tribunal last week sacked Governor Yusuf and declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Yusuf Gawuna, as the winner of the March 18 election.

SaharaReporters reported that the three-man panel ordered the withdrawal of the certificate of return issued to Governor Yusuf by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

However, Governor Yusuf's Chief Press Secretary, Tofa, who announced the latest appointment of 94 media by the governor said that the move was aimed at reinforcing the dedication of the governor's administration to enhancing information accessibility as a way to improve governance.

Tofa in a statement he made available to journalists in Kano, the state capital on Wednesday stated that the newly appointed Senior Special Reporters and Special Reporters are also being assigned to different ministries, departments and agencies of the government to support the ongoing efforts towards transparency and accountability by effectively disseminating information about government policies and initiatives.
