Stakeholders in the aviation sector have condemned perceived lopsidedness in the appointments and redeployments of key officials across agencies in the sector.
The appointments made by the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika according to the different stakeholders favoured the northern part of the country and relegated other areas and should therefore be reversed immediately.
The series of appointments, redeployments and removals cut across the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB).
An analysis of the recent announcement showed that 26 of the 33 officials affected in the new appointments are from the Northern extraction while only nine are from the South including just one from the East.
The announcement as indicated in a circular signed on behalf of the minister by the Director Human Resources Management, S.D Muhammad, indicated that officers deployed to the minister’s office will continue to draw their salaries and other entitlements from the agencies of deployment, this has also elicited criticisms.
At the NAMA, Musa Mai-Salihu was appointed as the new Director, Human Resources Management while Hauwa Usara was appointed company Secretary.
While Mr Chris Najomo was appointed Director, Air Transport Regulation for the NCAA, Adamu Wakili, Mr Ajiboye Isiaka and Bahagio Agio were appointed as Directors of Human Resources Management, Airworthiness Standards and Licensing and Training Standards respectively.
At the FAAN, Ali Maina was appointed Director, Engineering. While other directors retained their positions, Gold Iwinose will replace Clifford Imade Omozeghiano as company secretary and legal adviser.
