The newly-inaugurated president of the Trailer & Steel Construction Association of Nigeria (TSCAN), Mr Oluwatoyin Ibrahim, has said that the association will engage appropriate government agencies as part of efforts to end quackery in the industry.
Ibrahim who is also the Chairman, Metal Mate Limited, Sagamu, noted that the association will promote early adoption of technical skills among its young members, improve their competences and drive a strong membership campaign across the federation to ensure nationwide spread and representation.
He stated this during his investiture as the association second president and inauguration of other newly-elected officers of the association for a term of eight years at Jogor Centre, Ibadan on Thursday.
The president said the association
will develop and promote a common standard for all products, in line with the requirements of relevant national and international standards.
Speaking shortly after taking the oaths of office and allegiance, Ibrahim said "the primary objective of this association should be the promotion of professional competence and excellence among members, which will help us compete with stronger, well established local and international brands that are taking the largest share of opportunities in our industry today.
"To accomplish this objective, we must put away our differences and be united in purpose. A very important issue we will be looking to address during this dispensation is the issue of membership. There is the need to increase our membership base, not just in this region, but across the federation.
"Also, a major challenge that has held back this association s finance. This has greatly affected our ability to engage relevant stakeholders on issues that affect us individually and collectively."
The immediate past president of the 16-year-old association, Alhaji Kasco Yusuff, assured the new executive of support to carry out their projects while urging them to uphold the high level of professionalism the association is known for.
Chairman of the event and Aare Musulumi of Yorubalnd, Edo and Delta State, Alhaji Daud Akinola, urged the newly-elected officials to phase out manual labour in the industry.
"You are the builders of the nation. The discussion of Nigeria's economy is not complete without your economic impact.
"The past leaders have held this association for 16 years, I challenge you to continue with and surpass their great strides. I urge you to devise modern ways to phase out manual labour in this industry," Akinola said.
The Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba (Dr) Abdul-Ganiyu Salawu, who was represented at the event also encouraged the members to maintain and improve on the international standard in the industry.
The national officers sworn-in at the event include Dr Muritala Odesola (Vice-President), Chief Idowu Olalere (Secretary), Ahmed Akande (Assistant Secretary), Amonimo Ilesanmi (Treasurer), Famoriyo M.H. (Social Secretary).
Others are Sunday Ajeigbe (Assistant Treasurer), Fatai Olawale (Public Relations Officer), Tunde Abdullahi (Chief Whip), Afona Samuel (Auditor), Alhaji Abdulazeez Abdullahi (Financial Secretary) and Alhaji Banji Alubarika (Organising Secretary).
The oaths of office and allegiance were administered on them by Barrister Olaitan Olatunbosun of Olatunbosun & Co Legal Practitioners.
