NNPP SPOKE OUT OF IGNORANCE SAYS OGSIEC

Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) says the recent outburst by one Mr. Olaposi of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) on the statement that, just one petition was received by the election tribunal was borne out  of ignorance.

OGSIEC Chairman, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu while reacting to Oginni's claim, maintained that there was no iota of truth in his submission, insisting that out of the 256 elections, only one election petition was received.

He explained that the 20 petitions Oginni mentioned, were Court cases relating to intra-party matters and can be categorised as pre-election matters that the various political parties notified OGSIEC about, but the tribunal set up after the local government election received just one election petition.

"It was very obvious Mr. Oginni couldn't decipher the differences between court cases as it concerns political parties, which are solely intra-party issues and petition that arose as regards the conduct of the Local Council polls", the OGSIEC boss said.

Osibodu asked the people to verify OGSIEC's claim from the Local Government elections tribunal as the Commission will never join issues with any political party.

He assured that the Commission was guided by its  mandate of conducting free, fair and credible election that has been adjudged by Independent observers as credible and transparent.
