VOTER APATHY: OGSIEC SEEKS OBAS FORUM'S SUPPORT FOR LG ELECTIONS


In a bid to influence people at the grassroot level to fully participate in the forthcoming Local Government elections, the Ogun State  Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has solicited support of Awori Obas Forum.

Seeking the support during a courtesy visit to  the Palace of the Olota of Ota, Oba (Prof.) Adeyemi Abdulkabir Obalanlege, Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu, noted that the visit was also inevitable in order to receive royal blessings as the Local Council polls draw nearer.

"We are here today because, as a Commission, we recognise the importance and role of the Traditional Institution in getting across to the people at the grassroots. We want you to please help us sensitise the people against electoral  violence before, during and after the election because people respect and listen to you more. On our part, we are determined to ensure free, fair, credible and transparent elections", Osibodu said.


The OGSIEC boss who was accompanied by Commissioners and other top management staff said the Commission was synergizing with other stakeholders to discourage voter apathy, adding that, the election will be conducted according to the Constitution, Law and the dictates of good conscience.

Responding, Chairman of the the Awori Obas Forum and the Olota of Ota, Oba Obalanlege assured OGSIEC of the Royal Fathers' support, advising it to maintain its integrity and continue to educate and enlighten the people using the traditional and new media.

Also speaking, the Alagbado of Agbado Land, Oba Adedayo Shyllon, appreciated OGSIEC for according them honour,  calling for  level playing field for all participating political parties.

The Team later visited the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Secretariat, where the Transition Committee Chairman, Alh.Lawal Adewale pledged the support of the Council to the Electoral Officer and other ad-hoc staff that would be posted to the Local Government.
