- National President to address FIRS members on Monday
The impending action of picketing of Federal inland revenue services Nationwide by the Nigeria Civil Service Union has been suspended.
The suspension is sequel to a case instituted by the Union at National industrial Court sitting in Abuja, restraining the FIRS management from sealing the Union unit Secretariat and stopping the Union check-off dues accruable to the Union
On the other hand, the FIRS also approached the same courtroom to restrain the Union from carrying out its threat of picketing their offices Nationwide.
" The Court ruled that the respondents (the Union) are restrained from picketing the Offices of the applicants on 26th July, 2021 or any other day pending the determination of the motion on notice"
On the other hand, the National industrial Court in its wisdom granted requests from the union that " the defendants/Respondents (FIRS) herein either by themselves, agents assigns, privies or whomsoever that acts through them and for them from further threatening, sealing-off the plaintiff (NCSU) Union Offices at the Federal inland revenue services office premises, transferring the members of the plaintiff/ applicant out of Abuja, and arresting or detaining the members of the plaintiff/ Applicant in the circumstances of this case pending the determination of the interlocutory before this Honourable Court"
The Court however granted the prayer above after considering available attached exhibit which was described as a clear threat and in oder to protect both interest of justice and public interest the prayer to unseal the Union unit Secretariat was granted among other prayers
In addition, both parties were directed to maintain status quo ante including to release check off due accruable to the Union and maintain peace pending the determination of the Motion on notice.
Consequent upon the above rulings , a letter signed by the Deputy General Secretary in charge of organizing and State/ Federal Council Affairs Comrade lbezimakor Nnubia and circulated to all State and Federal Councils hereby announced the suspension of the picketing in the offices of FIRS Nationwide.
In an interview with the National President of the Nigeria Civil Service Union Comrade Lawrence Ameachi he appreciated efforts of all members across the country and reassured members of the Union that the Union is ever ready to protect their (members)interests at all time.
The National President Comrade Lawrence Ameachi in company with Chairman, Federal Council Comrade Timothy Odebunmi promised to address members of the Union at the unit Secretariat at the Federal inland revenue services on Monday 26 the July, 2021 on the need for them to maintain peace and go about their normal duties without any obstruction from any quarters as ruled by the National industrial Court on Friday 23rd July ,2021.
