There is a pandemonium in Mercy road area of Abeokuta following the enforcement of One-Way traffic by the Traffic Compliance And Enforcement Agency TRACE on the road to enable free flow of traffic.
The motorcyclist and residents turned out massively to protest the decision of the Traffic Compliance while alleging the owner of popular Alaga Food Canteen for influencing the policy to inconvenience the road users.
According to some of the agitators while speaking with Amebo NewspaperNG, Bola Babalola said, "The Canteen (Alaga) is the one causing problem in this area due to lack of parking space for her customers, the one-way traffic cannot work on this road, the policy need to be revisited, the feeder roads should be tarred to enable the road users link their destination." He said.
"The people here has been grumbling for years over this gridlock but nobody to correct the abnormalities, the woman should not be above all landlords in this area bringing a sick decision without considering others who play the road to seek for their daily meal, we believe the government under Governor Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun is a listener who will not allow the aberration to come alive because of only one person." Babalola added.
Amebo Newspaper NG, While speaking with the officer who led the men of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE AC Adedeji Teslim, said the report will be sent to the superior in the agency to give feedback on the policy.
Reacting to the policy, Commandant of TRACE Prince Seni Ogunyemi said the effective of the laws on the area is as a result of motorists conveying emergency victims to the hospital.
Also, he said the street has been occupied with so many business activities such as eateries, lounge, hotels and others which usually causes traffic on the road depriving the road users of smooth ride most times.
"The One-Way policy is a decision from the government to enable smooth traffic on the mercy road, nobody can obstruct decision of the government to ease its citizen, lots of people conveying accident victims always give excuse of traffic to death of their rescuers." Prince Seni Ogunyemi said.
He urged the residents to oblige with the decision of the state government in making the way One-way as it will bring peace and smooth ride to road users without any doubt.
