Basking in the euphoria of last week's successful inauguration of some capital projects, the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta is set to record another outstanding outing at the Senate.
According to press statement signed by Segun Orisajo, Head, Public Relations and Information, The Senate Committee on Health had fixed today for public hearing on the bill seeking for the establishment of Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta.
Ahead of this morning's hearing , the visioner of the project and Medical Director, FMCA, Prof Adewale Musa-Olomu had widely and relentlessly canvassed for the establishment of the university, arguing that it will reduce the high number of qualified Nigerian youths who are often denied university admission based on space constraints.
The Chairman ,Planning Implementation Committee for the university, Prof Olaiya Balogun is expected to lead other eminent Nigerians at today's presentation of memoranda in support of the project.
Other professional bodies listed to speak in favour of the project are the Nigerian Labour Congress, Nigerian Medical Association, ARD, NANNM, NANS, IHSAN, among others
His Royal Majesty, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Dr. Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo CFR Okukenu iv is also expected to lead Egba Obas to the event.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Health, Senator Dr. Ibrahim Y. Oloriegbe had assured that the Senate will pass the bill in April for a concurrence by the House of Representatives.
