The Transition Chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government, Hon Ayodeji Michael Shomide has inaugurated Twenty Traffic Mayors to maintain law and regulations on the roads within the jurisdiction of the counci to reduce accident under the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency TRACE today.
During the inauguration, In attendance was Alhaji Nurudeen Ayomide, Secretary to the local government, Mr Owolabi, Head of Local Government Administration HOLGA, amomg other local government transition members and supervisors.
Giving the newly inaugurated Traffic Mayors lecture was Commander Michael Ajayi, from Traffic Enforcement Agency, TRACE who said the birth of the traffic MAYORS in Abeokuta was as a result of increase in the statistic of accident last year where Abeokuta South has 28 out of 176 recorded death in the state.
He admonished the mayors to lead by examples in character and physique as well as manners of approaching offender because the Abeokuta South residents are well enlightened and have large exposure when it comes to law and orders.
In the same vein, Shomide said the inauguration is also a means of employment to the volunteers where they would be given salaries through Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency TRACE on a monthly basis and the requirements for joining is fitness and School leaving certificate SSCE.
He charged them to be law and abiding towards delivering their civic duties to the society.
